Registration Information
The owner of the horse must be a current member of the AGEHA to register the horse. The American Gaited Endurance Horse must demonstrate an even four beat gait, meet the conformation standards, have an excellent temperament and willing attitude. Eligibility for permanent registration can be accomplished by one of three methods:
- Foals that are the product of two AGEHA registered parents are eligible for registration. DNA verification is required. A completed
Breeder's Certification signed by the recorded owner, lessee, or authorized agent of the sire and dam at the time of the breeding must accompany the Registration Application (***Note*** The Breeder's Certificate
is on the Registration Application).
Items to be submitted to the Association for registration: Registration Application/DNA Typing Kit, photographs, and appropriate fees.
- Broodmares that cannot be ridden can qualify for permanent registration if they have produced two off-spring which meet the qualifications for adult
horses. Mares must meet the conformation standards. DNA results will be required to be recorded and placed on file.
Items to be submitted to the Association for broodmares: Registration Application/DNA Typing Kit, Veterinary Examination Report, photographs, and appropriate fees.
- Adult horses will be permanently registered based on the following qualifications which must be recorded and submitted to the Association. Qualification requires DNA typing to be recorded and placed on file:
The conformation of the horse without tack: legs and shoes (showing the horse barefoot or in a shoe no heavier than a keg with no action devices), mouth and teeth, eyes, front, back, and side of horse;
A measurement instrument must show that the horse is a minimum of 14 hands;
The measuring of a 60' distance which is clearly marked at the beginning and ending with a cone or other highly visible item;
The surface of the area to be ridden must be firm enough that the gait is clearly heard on the recording;
The horse must be ridden across the 60' area in an even four-beat gait at a minimum of 10 mph.
A large digital stop watch should be used to time the horse starting when the nose of the horse crosses the beginning marker of the 60' area and stopped when the nose of the horse crosses the ending marker of the 60' area. The time must be shown on the recording.
To calculate the miles per hour (mph) of the horse, the formula D/T/F=S must be used where D=Distance (60), T=Time from the digital stop watch it took the horse to travel the area, F=1.46667, S=Speed in mile per hour (mph)
A Letter of Authenticity and Veterinary Examination must be completed and submitted with the recording.
Items to be submitted to the Association for qualification: Registration Application/DNA Typing Kit, Letter of Authenticity, Veterinary Examination Report, photographs, the recording of qualification, and appropriate fees.
